Preface
Beta-blockers have made a successful journey in the treatment of heart failure from contra-indication to indication. This fact supports and reinforces the idea of heart failure as a neuro-endocrine disorder. Their relative importance and sequence of utilization had been determined after the already established recommendation for ACE inhibitors. Recent data show that treatment of chronic heart failure can also be started with a beta-blocker as an alternative option to starting therapy with an ACE inhibitor. In this supplement, a thorough review of how and when to use beta-blockers in heart failure is provided.
