Heart disease is nowadays mostly the outcome of atherosclerotic process. The leading role of high blood lipid levels is unquestionable. Fortunately, effective drugs like statins have proven highly effective in reducing serum cholesterol and improving clinical status in wide populations. Furthermore, the questions about whom to treat, and how intense the treatment should be, continue to evolve. In this supplement, a panel of outstanding specialists provide thoughtful information to refine the goal of blood lipid reduction in risk patients.
