Preface
Research during the past decade has increased our understanding of the critical role of coronary thrombosis in the pathophysiology and treatment of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Significant advances have been made in pharmacotherapy for patients with ACS undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention, including the introduction of new antithrombin and antiplatelet therapies. While clopidogrel in combination with aspirin is the current standard of care for treating this patient population, a number of new glycoprotein inhibitors and antiplatelet agents are in development.
In this issue of the European Heart Journal Supplements, the evidence and emerging concepts in antiplatelet treatment is reviewed. We hope our readers will find these articles of great value, either as useful summaries of evidence or insight into the future of antiplatelet therapy.
