Antiplatelet treatment is a mainstay for every form of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Nowadays, fortunately, there is a variety of options to control platelet adhesion or aggregation. However, this fact makes actual decision on treatment difficult. Recent guidelines on this topic have been reviewed and expanded by experts in this field. Essential information on aspects such as laboratory assessment and management of resistance to antiplatelet drugs are included also. Furthermore, advice on clinical management of rather unresolved questions such as antiplatelet drug discontinuation are given for the convenience of our readership. In conclusion, this issue of European Heart Journal Supplements provides a thorough update on antiplatelet treatment, an issue that no cardiologist can overlook.
