Abstract
A reasonable body of information is becoming available that will help us to understand some of the cellular and molecular abnormalities in cardiac and arteries in diabetic and insulin-resistant states. Rational therapeutic efforts to improve the actions of insulin, specifically in cardiovascular tissues, are needed. Similarly, specific interventions to prevent vascular complications induced by hyperglycaemia, even if euglycaemia is not achieved, are also feasible.
